This Christmas 2025, we had the privilege of visiting Amitabha Malaysia Orphanage, bringing gifts to the children — yet the experience reminded us that the deepest joy is never about the price tag. Through this act of charity gifting, we were gently reminded that true giving begins when we choose presence over presents.
Instead of simply handing out items, we invited the children to pick or draw their own gifts. In that choice, they found ownership. In that moment, we practiced humility, respect, and equality — acknowledging their voices, their preferences, and their dignity.
Kneeling to their level removed the physical barrier of height, allowing the children to feel safe, seen, and valued. Personal eye contact, gentle greetings, and direct engagement turned a simple gift exchange into a moment of trust, connection, and mutual respect.
The lesson is simple yet profound: the power of giving isn’t in what we buy, but in how we show up. When we open our hearts and truly see the children, we plant seeds of joy, love, and kindness that go far beyond the holiday season.
