There are moments in life when time seems to pause, and the world feels suspended between sorrow and something sacred. Holding her urn in my hands was one of those moments — raw, fragile, and full of unspoken emotions. It was more than just ashes I carried; it was a lifetime of memories, love, regrets, and the invisible thread that binds a mother and daughter beyond this life.
This is my story on 20th June 2025 — a journey through grief, spirit, and the quiet strength that emerged when I thought I might break.
Today, I met the part of goodbye no one ever warns you about —
when spirit meets spirit, and your soul remembers everything.
I picked her ashes into the urn with my own hands.
And as I held it close to my heart on the journey back to the Singapore temple, it began —
a strange heaviness pressing into my neck, then tightening across my chest.
My breath shortened.
Panic rose like a wave.
My body tensed. I gasped for air, drowning in invisible sorrow.
I knocked on the car window, desperate to breathe, trembling in a way I couldn’t explain.
I couldn’t bear it.
The undertaker gently told me to place the urn beside me instead.
And like magic —
the pressure lifted instantly.
But the most sacred moment was still to come.
At the temple, I stepped into the ancestral tower where 大势至菩萨 (Mahāsthāmaprāpta Bodhisattva) stood watch.
The very instant I crossed the threshold, my body weakened.
I couldn’t stand.
A force — not grief, not fatigue, but something higher —
swirled through me like wind through a hollow tree.
My breath scattered. My limbs shook.
The monk saw it all and quietly brought a chair before I collapsed.
I sat. I trembled.
And I felt… everything.
Carrying her urn up four flights of stairs wasn’t a task of strength —
it was a journey through her sorrow, her regret, her deep maternal love.
Each step was heavy with memories never spoken, emotions never released.
Then came the final chant.
I held the incense with both hands.
Suddenly — a surge in my chest.
So powerful, so crushing, I could hardly breathe.
It wasn’t mine.
It was hers.
A tidal wave of sorrow and unspoken emotion passed through me.
In that moment, I sought the master’s guidance —
but the trembling voice wasn’t mine alone…
It was hers, pouring out through my tears.
Tears that didn’t just speak of grief,
but of lifetimes of silence, karmic weight,
and everything she never got to say in this life.
My body… it quivered.
My breath… scattered.
And in that moment, I understood —
I was the bridge.
My body became the passage between realms.
My heart, her final refuge.
My breath, her last prayer.
She did not leave alone —
She left through me, with me,
and perhaps… finally, free.
Today, I did not just carry her ashes.
I carried our karmic ties.
Our mother-daughter bond.
The regrets. The gratitude. The longing.
And I let them flow.
Not with fear,
but with the grace of one who came to complete what was written long ago.
Her spirit did not want to leave without showing me —
everything she couldn’t say in life.
And in those trembling moments, I felt what so many describe as signs from deceased loved ones —
not just symbols or coincidences, but waves of emotion, presence, and messages that bypass the mind and go straight to the soul.
My soul — open, raw, and awake —
received every sacred note of it.
Now I rest.
My body, exhausted.
My spirit, expanded.
Because today…
I did not just walk her body to the temple.
I walked her spirit to the gates of freedom.
